Chile woke up
On October 18 of this year Chile got bored with the abuses and finally got its voice out. Years of injustice motivated hundreds of people to take to the streets to show their anger. When I measured the magnitude of what was happening I felt hope, I thought there would finally be changes.
Although, as I mentioned in other posts, I am a student of social work and I think I was very aware of the inequality that existed in the country, nevertheless, I was surprised to see the Chileans so determined and united by the same objective.
As the days went by, I began to feel anguish; the military in the streets, police using weapons without mercy against the people, disappeared, dead, and the television programs showing burglaries and fires all days, made me feel very afraid and saddened by the high levels of violence reached in such a short time. I didn't want to leave my house and I was afraid that my family and friends would have to.
Today I am more calm, with the conviction that all this had to happen to end the injustices in the country. I am angry at the government's responses, they do not want to listen to us and continue to put obstacles in the way of change so the struggle must not stop.
I sincerely hope that the situation of Chileans will improve, that we can all live with dignity and that our rights will be respected.
